The event marked the anniversary of Roger Bannister's four-minute mile in Oxford, on 6 May 1954.
The Community Mile was organised by Oxford University Athletic Club (OUAC), and the University of Oxford, with support from Oxfordshire County Council. It was open to the general public – of all ages and abilities – and World Athletics sponsored many local school children as part of their Global Kids’ Athletic Day.
Registration took place in Christ Church Meadow, while the finishers’ medal was presented on the Iffley Road Track where Roger Bannister set the world record.
