APPOINTMENT OF HIGH COURT JUDGE

Sonia Harris-Short (1993, Law) has been appointed as a High Court Judge. Since April 2024 she has been Senior Circuit Judge and Designated Family Judge of Wolverhampton, Telford and the Black Country.

Sonia Harris-Short (1993, Law) graduated from Christ Church with a first class degree in jurisprudence. She pursed postgraduate study at the University of British Columbia and was called to the Bar in 1998. Sonia has had associations with academic institutions in Birmingham and overseas, and has advised the House of Lords Select Committee on Adoption.  

Sonia is the second female Member of the House to be appointed as a High Court Judge after Dame Joanna Angela Smith, DBE (1986, Law), in 2021.
