There was a really interesting looking programme of lectures and tours during the day, which sadly we were unable to attend. However, I heard a sufficient number of rave reviews for it to be clear that we had missed a treat. In any event, arriving in Tom Quad on a sunny evening to have a glass of fizz and catch up with some old (and new) friends made up for that. Dinner itself was a joy, from sung Grace to coffee at the end of the evening.
Historic Royal Palaces’ Head of Research, Professor Anthony Musson, and the House’s Executive Head Chef, Chris Simms, had put together a delicious Tudor-style banquet, slightly adapted to the modern palate. The food (and rather lovely wine pairing) was both enjoyable and informative: I for one had not only never eaten frumenty before, but didn’t even know what it was (a medieval porridge made with wheat and either milk or broth, often served with venison, for any reader who is equally poorly informed).
We had an excellent evening, with great company, and are already looking forward to the next such event.
