Nestled among the rolling hills of the South Downs, the late 18th-century manor has been lovingly restored by our host, the Hon. Charles Pearson, in a remarkable project spanning more than twenty years. The result is a house and estate of exceptional character, where historic charm and careful stewardship are evident throughout.
Our group of 21 guests enjoyed a guided tour of both the house and its grounds. We explored the sensitively curated Georgian interiors, learning about the history of the property and the vision behind its restoration. Outside, guests were able to appreciate the beautifully landscaped gardens, including the enchanting shell house and an elegant classical pool house, both highlights of the estate. The afternoon concluded with a delightful tea, providing an opportunity for guests to reflect on the tour and enjoy the company of fellow members in a truly memorable setting.
We are immensely grateful to the Hon. Charles Pearson for his generous hospitality in hosting the 1546 Society. The visit was a wonderful success, and we look forward to offering more intimate events beyond Oxford in the future for our legators.
