The Taxation of Corporate Finance, by David Southern KC (1965, English), is a comprehensive book addressing the key tax, accounting and legal issues of corporate financing by debt, equity and reinvested profits in both a domestic and international context.
In the words of the Foreword by Lord David Richards, of the Supreme Court, it is a ‘monumental work’.
It builds on, expands and updates David Southern’s previous 10 editions of the Taxation of Loan Relationships and Derivative Contracts. It draws on the author’s extensive experience working in the Inland Revenue, in banking and in practice as a barrister, appearing in the Court of Appeal, the House of Lords, the Supreme Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union. It also comments on global tax policy developments such as the OECD’s Base Erosion Profit Shifting (BEPS) 1.0 and 2.0 projects. The book is illustrated throughout with examples illustrating the effect in practice of the various rules and arrangements.
The book will be published on 24 September 2026.
