The first YOST scholars, William (16) and Adam (13), will be offered the chance to contribute to the musical life of the Cathedral whilst – at the same time – learning from its senior musical staff.
YOST Scholars are based at a variety of institutions around the UK and are encouraged to engage with their local community. YOST tutors guide their students and offer them opportunities to play for services and concerts. Since its launch in 2013, YOST scholars have gone on to study at a range of prestigious Higher Education colleges and Universities, as well as to become organ scholars at various Cathedrals and Oxbridge chapels.
YOST's aim of 'teaching and inspiring the next generation of organists' involves offering opportunities to promising young musicians who may not otherwise be able to pursue their studies. In particular, it seeks to support those from low-income backgrounds and thereby widen access to a first-class musical training.
