Christ Church 500th Anniversary Music Festival: Charlie Lovell-Jones (Violin) and Julian Chan (Piano)
Thursday 9 October, 8pm
Charlie Lovell-Jones (2017, Music) and pianist Julian Chan present works for violin and piano by former House Member Sir William Walton, including the Italianate Two Pieces. They open their programme with Mozart’s last large-scale work for violin and piano, written concurrently with Don Giovanni. Given Walton’s love of Italy they continue the Italian theme by ending with Respighi’s monumental Violin Sonata of 1917.
Tickets from £15.
Christ Church 500th Anniversary Music Festival: Louise Guy (Piano)
Tuesday 28 October, 8pm
Louise Guy (2024, Law) is a second-year law student at Christ Church and was awarded the William Ewald Instrumental Exhibition on piano. She has performed the Grieg Piano Concerto in BBC Hoddinott Hall, where she will be performing Rachmaninov Piano Concerto no. 2 in December. This programme reflects her passion for Romantic music, tracing an emotional journey from the love and heartbreak of the song transcriptions to the exuberance of Chopin’s Grande Polonaise and the virtuosic, yet whimsical, La Campanella.
Tickets from £10.
Christ Church 500th Anniversary Music Festival: Peter Holder (Organ)
Thursday 30 October, 8pm
From African and English folk melodies to an original theme of J. S. Bach – even student drinking songs – this inaugural recital by Peter Holder, Organist of Christ Church, takes the works of four Western composers woven around earlier themes, inspired by the first Organist to be appointed to Cardinal College by Wolsey, John Taverner, and his seminal Mass setting based on the 16th-century song Western Wynde.
Tickets from £15.
