Errollyn Wallen's work is extraordinary; it is distinctive, beautiful and thrilling at one. A Belize-born British composer, she was appointed Master of the King's Music in August 2024 and was awarded BBC Music Magazine's Personality of the Year (2025). She has written more than 20 operas, alongside vocal, orchestral and chamber works.
Wallen composed a setting of the Magnificat – the liturgical centrepiece of Vespers – for the service of Solemn Vespers in the Cathedral on Saturday 28 June, to mark the quincentenary of the founding of Cardinal College. The commission was made possible by the Friends of Christ Church Cathedral.
On 1 November, the composer will return to chat to Dr Leah Broad, here at Christ Church. Dr Broad is a former Junior Research Fellow and former postdoctoral researcher at the House.
