His Majesty The King has approved the appointment of two new Regius Professorships at Christ Church.

Professor Luke Bretherton succeeds The Revd Canon Professor Nigel Biggar C.B.E. The Regius Professorship of Moral and Pastoral Theology was established by an Act of Parliament in 1840.

Revd Professor Andrew Davison succeeds Revd Canon Professor Graham Ward. The Regius Professorship of Divinity, established by Henry VIII, is one of the oldest professorships at Oxford.

As Canon Professors, both appointees will serve as ordained Canons of the Cathedral. Professor Bretherton will also become Director of the McDonald Centre for Theology, Ethics, and Public Life.
