Opening the heavy wooden gates from St. Aldate's into Christ Church required brute strength from those who open and close public access to the Meadow 364 days a year. Thanks to the generosity of Philip and Roswitha Wetton, gate access has significantly been improved with the purchase of an automation system that allows the gates to open and close with the touch of a button.

To mark the generous gift of the gate automation system and to acknowledge the past generosity of Philip and Roswitha to Christ Church, a lunch was hosted by Professor Roger Davies, Emeritus Philip Wetton Chair of Astrophysics, along with his wife Yo Davies, in the Keene room. Guests included Professor Stephen Smartt, Wetton Professor of Astrophysics with his wife Sarah Smartt, and Mihran Vardanyan (2006, Astrophysics) and Selcuk Topal (2010, Astrophysics), both recipients of the Philip Wetton Graduate Scholarship in Astrophysics.
