The Honourable Peter Jay (1957, PPE), who died on 22 September, graduated from Christ Church with a first class honours degree in PPE. He was President of the JCR, and also President of the Oxford Union during his studies before leaving for a career in journalism. Peter Jay was economics editor for The Times and, later in his career, for the BBC – as well as a presenter on Weekend World, for London Weekend Television, in the 1970s. In 1977 he was made British ambassador to Washington and, after his work as a diplomat, worked as Chief of Staff to Robert Maxwell. He was also a non-executive director of the Bank of England.
Peter Jay's son, Sammy Jay (2007, English), also studied at Christ Church. We would like to express our condolences to his family.
