Who took the survey?
The survey was emailed to 8,628 alumni and mailed to 623. We have received 618 responses, bringing the response rate to 6.7%.
The representations by decade, subject and type of first degree closely reflected that of our alumni community. A breakdown is available here.
What we learned, and what will we do?
Communication
Alumni are generally satisfied with the frequency, quality and contents of e-Matters, and Christ Church Matters, and find these to be our most important forms of communication.
Many respondents felt that the content of these publications could be made more relevant to them as readers. We will therefore set up a small working group to explore how can we make the content of e-Matters and Christ Church Matters more relevant to alumni.
Christ Church Connections
It is clear that we have not promoted and explained the advantages of our online alumni platform clearly enough. During this year, we will highlight the functions of Christ Church Connections and share 'how to' guides, to encourage more Members to sign up and use the features on offer.
Events
Over half of those filling out the survey had attended an event since January 2022, and, even more encouragingly, 80% said that they are likely to attend one in the future.
Many who did not attend events cited geographical location as the reason; we will therefore endeavour to make lectures available online wherever possible (either live or as a recording).
The majority of respondents would like to be invited back more frequently. We are looking into the possibility of adding an additional Gaudy to our programme, each year, and therefore reducing the gap between these occasions.
We will invite the earliest matriculation years back each year for the Reunion Dinner.
We will also look into adding a few annual events to our calendar, most likely in London. Our black-tie dinner, on 31 January 2025, sold out in a matter of days; so there is clearly an appetite for events of this kind.
Volunteering
120 of the respondents said that they would be willing to offer their help as volunteers, and most would love to come back and share their experience and insights with current students.
We aim to set up, and maintain, a list of volunteers to offer our students a wide variety of views and experiences.
